• Summer Reading Extra Credit: Paint a Ceiling Tile

Kids who wish to Paint a Ceiling Tile for the library can do so by participating in our extra credit program! If children decide to participate, they will be given a special reading log. You will only get one, so don't lose it!

Each week kids should read 4 hours a week for a total of 24 hours read during our summer reading program.

Teens can also participate in the extra credit to paint a ceiling tile. Teens will have to complete their entire game board in order to receive the extra credit.

Once Summer Reading is over, those who have completed the extra credit will get to paint a ceiling tile to look like their favorite book cover. These will be displayed in the Library!

The Library will have scheduled days for the kids to paint their tiles in the meeting room, and will provide the ceiling tile with an outline and paints to use!

Join us for our annual summer reading program!
June 3 - July 15, 2024

Sign ups begin for summer reading on June 3, but you can sign up until summer reading ends. You must have a valid library card to participate in the annual summer reading program (kids can use their parent's valid library card). However, all of our programs are open to the public, so anyone can join us for movies or storytimes.

Our summer reading program has three different levels: kids, teens, and adults.

Kids Summer Reading Program

Kids can come receive their weekly prize after reading for two hours that week.

Make sure to mark your time on the reading log. Once your reading log shows two hours read, bring it to the library and show us to receive your prize for the week! Only one prize per week.

Join us on Monday and Tuesday at 2 P.M. for our Summer Reading Movies and
Wednesday and Thursday for at 10:30 A.M. for Summer Reading Storytimes!

Books must be selected from the Marion & Ed Hughes Public Library collection which includes eBooks & eAudiobooks from the Library’s Overdrive, Hoopla, and Tumblebooks websites. You can’t use books you have at home or from another library. Credit for time spent reading will not be given unless participants bring their logs with them to the library. A limit of one prize per week will be given for time spent reading. Participants must have read (or be read to) at least 2 hours during the week in order to be eligible for a prize. Times don’t need to be concurrent. They may be combined or split. Children have until July 15th to pick up their final prize. No prizes will be issued after that date.

Teen Summer Reading Program

This year, every teen will receive a free tumbler upon signing up for the summer reading program. Along with the weekly prizes, teens can receive extra prizes such as stickers and custom charms for their tumblers.

Teens receive their weekly prize after completing 3 squares on their game board. After writing the name of the title that completes the corresponding game square, teens can bring in their board and receive their prize. Every game square must contain a different title.

Teens can be entered in the teen grand prize drawing after every 6 squares completed on their game board. The drawing for the grand prize will be done at the end of the summer reading program.

Game squares have many different categories, such as: Read a Book Beginning with the Letter "J", Read a Graphic Novel, and Attend a Summer Reading Program Event!

Join us on Monday and Tuesday at 2 P.M. for our Summer Reading Movies
