Spring is in the AIR in the Library's Storytelling Room! We've created a Gardening themed dramatic play area as part of our "Every Child Ready to Read" Initiative. We have areas for the children to "plant" fruits and vegetables, "water" and "prune" them, and even a color match games using different colored fruits and vegetables your kids love to eat. We have also pulled several picture books, beginning readers, and board books covering the topic of gardening to help you introduce your child to the wonderful world of reading. Come have some fun with your child sowing the seeds of knowledge!
Learning to read begins long before children start school. Current research shows that early childhood experiences have a great impact on brain development and a child’s ability to learn language and literacy skills. When parents and caregivers read to children, they help develop these skills. The earlier you begin the better language and reading skills they will develop. Research also shows that hands-on play helps some children to develop skills necessary for their future. All of these experiences are modeled in the Every Child Ready To Read® Initiative.
