Additional Biographical Information   Per niece: Entered Naval service in 1943-1944 after graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Pharmacy. Participated in Pacific Theater near the end of WWII. After the war he worked for his family business of building and renting homes in the Nederland area, also accumulating his plumber's license. He was born Johannes Geisbertes VanOostrom, the first son of Dutch immigrants, but changed (and simplified) his name to Bert VanOostrom upon entering the University of Texas. He was a wonderful historian and storeyteller, loved by his many friends and 3 adoring nieces.
